Hiroshima Day
On August 6th 1945, during World War 2, the USA ended the war by dropping the first of 2 atomic bombs on the city of Hiroshima. At TIV we observe this day with a focus on peace and justice, not only in the greater world, but here at camp. Early in the morning, 50 campers and staff participated in a peace vigil with local towns people at the Thetford Hill Town green. Some of the activities at camp had peace themes, The day ended with a candlelight ceremony at the camp waterfront, with peace candles floating in the lake, songs of hope, and discussion of campers relevant feelings and experiences. It was a very moving day; the campers are bright, informed and articulate.
The pictures below are of the posters created by the kids at TIV with their messages about the Hiroshima incident and anything else which they felt would be appropriate. Each picture is split into 4 equal parts which you can click on to get an enlarged version.
