TIV WEATHER REPORT

TIV has experienced a heat wave for most of this session with only 2 days of rain and 2 night-time thunderstorms. The kids have taken advantage of this weather by having a lot of waterfront activities.

The forecast for next session looks like more of the same with more fun in the sun guaranteed.

ROCK VIDEOS CREATE QUITE A THRILL!

This year's 1st session Rock Video 'All-Camp' proved to be another great success with all bunks taking part to perform their masterpieces. One of the highlights of the night was the full 6 minute performance from the OGB bunk. Counselor Kevin was the damsel in distress as Michael Jackson (played by Marquis) fronted the theatrical zombies in "Thriller". The costumes were well thought out along with the dramatic make up, which added to the drama.

Other highlights included the Junior and Youngest Green Boys performing a memorable interpretation of "Who Let The Dogs Out!" and the Oldest Hill Girls staging a 'battle of the boy-bands' between with performances as the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC!

KIDS RESPOND WELL TO THE  "UNDERGROUND RAILROAD"

On Thursday July 10th, the campers and staff at TIV took part in the "Underground Railroad". This event is a re-enactment of the era of slavery ih US history and encompasses not only the political and economic conditions of the time, but also the emotional effect of the slave trade and the movement to help slaves find their way to freedom..

The Seniors, along with the staff, were a great help in portraying the many characters and executed their roles in a serious and convincing manner. The campers took part as the slaves, whom were taken on an emotional yet educational journey. The experienced their families being taken away as they were set on Slave ships to work in the cotton fields of America. Later, fighters against the Slavery trade offer the chance of freedom to the Slaves/kids. They are then taken on a journey to Canada where along the way they encounter safe-houses, sheriffs and money-hungry bounty hunters. Each group then makes it to freedom in Canada (drama center) where they reflect on the history of what they were re-enacting and their feelings from that. A bigger message is taught about freedom and discrimination, which the kids can identify with in everyday life at school, home and even camp.

The response from the kids was great and they have noted its impact on their knowledge about discrimination as a whole. Thanks go out to the staff involved but mainly to the seniors who played an invaluable part in making it a believable and successful 'All-Camp' by being responsible, respectful and by being positive role models for the other children at camp. Well done!
