A Typical Camp Day
AM
7:30 WAKE-UP A chance to feed the farm
animals, go jogging, play in the rec hall. Some campers begin
their morning clean-up.
7:50 WASH-UP. A bell rings to remind all that breakfast will soon be served. The cabin which has KP duty go to the dining hall to set the tables and put the food out.
8:15 BREAKFAST. After the meal the KP cabin stays behind to wipe the tables, sweep up, and empty the trash -- and feed the pigs.
8:45 CLEAN-UP. Make beds, straighten
cubbies and shelves; sweep the cabin & empty the trash. Each
cabin group also has a Community Chore, a common area of camp
to clean or maintain ( e.g. the library, drama center, or rec hall).
9:30 TOWN MEETING. Here, the campers choose their morning activities from lists posted earlier, and now read by one of the program directors. There are announcements and some singing.
10:00 1ST AM PROGRAM PERIOD. Campers go to the activity they've selected with the counselor who will lead it (shop, crafts, drama, fishing, music, sports, sailing, horseback riding, etc.).
11:15 2ND AM PROGRAM PERIOD. A bell
rings, and campers move on to a new activity (or they may stay
at the one chosen for the first period). The schedule is always
posted so that campers can find out what is going on. Perhaps
we'll have a free swim -- or some open boating.
PM
12:15 WASH-UP. The bell rings; it's time to get ready for lunch. KP cabin to the dining hall.
12:35 LUNCH. Followed by group singing
outside the dining hall, announcements of afternoon swim, and
then, "mail call!"
1:30 BUNK HOUR. Rest or quiet activities with your cabin group. A good time to write a letter home.
2:30 GENERAL SWIM. All campers and staff to the waterfront, even those who aren't planning to swim this afternoon.
3:30 SNACK. Served to the whole camp before the start of afternoon activities.
3:45 AFTERNOON PROGRAM PERIOD. There may be one all-camp game or program during this period, lasting until 4:45; or perhaps we'll have a program period with a wide range of activities from which campers may choose.
4:45 FREE TIME. A chance for everyone
to relax before dinner.
5:10 WASH-UP. Get ready for dinner. KP cabin to the dining hall.
5:30 DINNER. After the meal, announcements of evening program.
6:15 "HOUR AFTER DINNER". Feeding the horses and farm animals. Bring laundry to the laundry room, or pick-up and sort clean laundry. Gardening in the vegetable, herb, or perrenial gardens. Some boating, a basketball game, or individual/small group lessons (in music, a sport, or drama).
7:15 EVENING PROGRAM PERIOD. A play, movie, dance, "hootenany", large group game, etc. Something the whole camp can do together, something for each cabin cluster (age group) to do together, or maybe another program period, depending on the schedule of the day.
8:45 "BONNE NUIT" TIME. A
chance to say good night to all of your friends.
9:00 SNACK. A bell rings, and everyone goes back to his/her own cabin for snack, washing up and getting ready for bed. A story or song from one of your counselors. Perhaps some discussion about what you would like to do the next day or how your day went.
9:30 LIGHTS OUT! Time to get some rest & get ready for another busy camp day. Night patrol starts (lasting until Midnight, when counselors return to their cabins) with staff members on duty in each of the cabin areas of camp, checking the cabins to make sure all is OK.
It is a long and busy day -- full of opportunities to do many of the things you like, to learn new games, skills, & activities, and to make new friends. While we follow the same general schedule each day, we keep it flexible so we can deal with weather changes, out of camp program activities, and program suggestions from campers. We encourage ALL campers to plan, organize & run activities for the rest of camp, and they often do so.
